EPA
COACHING

The EPA is one of the few auditions in which the actor has ultimate agency.

At each audition, three things must be present:
Material displaying variety and vigor
A personal connection to that material
A sense of play, ease, and confidence
It's crucial that creative teams and casting directors witness these aspects memorably and in an extremely compressed amount of time.

In our sessions together, we’ll compile, rehearse, and tighten four pieces into audition-ready works you can lean on again and again.

As your coach, I'll encourage you to choose pieces that not only express who you are, but the kind of work you aim to do. What works for one doesn’t work for all: together, we will craft an audition that’s unique to your identity, ability, and career goals.

We'll meet five times: four times virtually and once in an in-person setting in which you'll perform your work in front of others.

Here's what we work on.

Building audition material

In our sessions, we sculpt four pieces: two monologues and two short cuts of sung music. Our shared goal in our work together is to get you in those audition rooms absolutely at ease and thrilled about what you've prepared.

While the final pieces you select are ultimately up to you, we both research and bring in material that compel you to dig deep and have fun in your body. I think of myself as a passionate monologue hunter: no body of work (pretty much) is off-limits! I'm here as your coach to help you select material –– from contemporary plays, Shakespeare, even that one episode of Grey's Anatomy –– and make it your own.

If performing classical work is in your career goals, we work 1 contemporary monologue and 1 classical monologue. If performing musicals is not in your career goals, we work 4 monologues. Our time together is customizable.

Monthly meetings

Four 1:1 one-hour rehearsals are held over Zoom. At the end of each meeting, I assign homework and ideas to consider so that you're able to make meaningful progress rehearsing on your own before we meet next.

Mock EPA

The fifth and final rehearsal is in person and functions as a mock EPA, complete with a panel. Sharing your work live in a studio space will allow you to feel what it'll be like to perform your pieces as a compiled audition in front of an unfamiliar audience. Each mock EPA concludes with feedback.
