AUDITION COACHING

Your grad school audition is no more than a five-minute solo work.

Inside this solo work, three things must be clear:
Your connection to the chosen material
Your reasons for auditioning
Your sense of self
It's crucial that your prospective schools witness these three aspects memorably and in a compressed amount of time.

In our sessions together, we’ll compile, rehearse, and tighten this solo work, as well as explore and define the ways your prospective schools can place you on your desired career paths.

As your coach, I'll encourage you to choose two pieces that not only express who you are, but what you can do. What works for one doesn’t work for all: together, we will craft an audition plan that’s unique to your identity, ability, and imagination.

Students must intend to audition and apply to MFA and MA programs in January 2026. We meet virtually in Fall 2025 and conclude with an in-person mock audition, complete with a panel, in New York City.

This is the second year of this cohort. Students from the first year's cohort are now entering MFA programs at LAMDA, Case Western/Cleveland Play House, and CalArts.

Kim challenged me to work on pieces that helped me to grow and thrive outside of my comfort zone. Through 12 first-round auditions, 24 callbacks, and getting into 8 schools, Kim was with me every step of the way.

Here's what we work on.

Building audition material

In our coaching sessions, we sculpt your two audition monologues –– as well as two backups –– into a dynamic, expressive, one-person piece. Our shared goal in our work together is to get you in those audition rooms absolutely at ease and thrilled about what you've prepared.

While the final pieces you select are ultimately up to you, we'll both research and bring in contemporary and classical monologues that compel you to dig deep. I'm here as your coach to help you select material and make it your own.

Monthly meetings

We meet virtually this fall/winter for four 1:1 rehearsals total.

Each session is one hour.

At the end of each session, I assign homework and ideas to consider so that you're able to make meaningful progress rehearsing on your own before we meet next.

Between each session, I ask for self-tapes of your work so that I may contribute additional feedback before our next rehearsal.

Midpoint Sharing and Mock Audition

In November 2025, at the midpoint of our time together, all students will meet on Zoom to run two pieces for the entire group.

In early January 2026, a mock audition will be held in-person in New York City. Each mock audition will conclude with feedback. Sharing your work live in a studio space will allow you to feel what it'll be like to perform your pieces as a compiled audition in front of an unfamiliar audience. Last year's panel audience included cast members from the Broadway companies of Leopoldstadt and Hamilton.

Check-ins after your appointments

After the coaching sessions come to an end, we'll check in over email after each of your MFA auditions to celebrate, debrief how each went down, and strategize any adjustments for upcoming schools.

I'm planning on auditioning for grad programs! I'm interested. What's the next step?

Fill out the Google Form here and let's get started.

I look forward to meeting you!

Most of all, Kim instilled confidence in me and the work I was doing so that I could walk into every audition room as my best, most open and authentic self. Working with Kim was the best decision I could have made to prepare me for grad school auditions, and I guarantee it will be yours too.
